We recently integrated ChatGPT, a new and incredibly impressive artificial intelligence, as a new feature in Catittude’s Concordance function. This allows users to define a context domain for each client, which ChatGPT then uses to provide the exact meaning of a selected word or sentence in that specific context.

Using the Concordance function with ChatGPT is simple. First, the user selects a word or sentence in the source text and clicks on the Concordance button. Then Cattitude not only searches the memory database for sentences in which said text occurs, but also provides the most relevant and accurate meaning of the selected word or sentence in that context as given by ChatGPT. If a context has been defined for said client in the User Settings, ChatGPT will take this into account to refine its answers.

Bust all racers
While simulating a Need for Speed (racing game) project, we asked about the meaning of the phrase Bust all racers. ChatGPT answered: Bust All Racers is an expression used to describe someone’s competitive spirit to win a race or other competitive event. It is often said to someone who is determined and confident that they will come out ahead.
We believe that the integration of ChatGPT into Cattitude’s Concordance function enhances the tool’s usefulness for translators. It allows them to quickly and easily obtain the precise meaning of a word or sentence within a specific context, which can be especially useful for complex or technical texts.
However, it’s important to note that ChatGPT does not currently provide information on the sources on which its knowledge is based. This is a clear limitation of the tool, as it means that users have to take its answers at face value without being able to verify their accuracy or reliability. It is therefore still of paramount importance that you are an absolute expert in your field.
AI and Human Synergy
We do not believe that AI will immediately take over the world. While it’s true that AI can perform many tasks more quickly and accurately than humans, it’s ultimately up to us to decide how to use these tools and technologies. We should not go on auto-pilot and rely solely on AI, but instead strive for a synergy between artificial intelligence and human intelligence.
And yes, this blog, including its headline, was hardly written by us, but mostly by ChatGPT.
